그럼 정말 님의 말이 온전히 사실일 수 있는지 간단히 확인해 보겠습니다.
1974년 [왕국 봉사]지에 이런 글이 실렸었답니다.

"형제들이 그들의 집과 자산을 팖으로써, 이 낡은 제도에서 살게 되는 생활의 남은 부분을 파이오니아
봉사로서 마치고자 계획하고 있다는 보고를 종종 듣는다. 그것은 참으로 이 악한 세상의 끝이 이르기 전에 남아 있는 짧은 시간을 보내는 훌륭한 방법인 것이다."

"Reports are heard of brothers selling their homes and property and planning to finish out the rest of their days in this old system in the pioneer service.
Certainly this is a fine way to spend the short time remaining before the wicked world's end."

이 때까진 아마겟돈은 아직 시작되지 않았던 것으로 보입니다.
"이 악한 세상의 끝이 이르기 전에 남아 있는 짧은 시간을 보내는" , 여기서 언급되고 있는 "짧은 시간"의 최대치는 1974년 5월로부터 어느 정도의 시간을 말하고 있는 것일까요?

1968년 8월 15일호 파수대에의 "Why Are You Looking Forward to 1975?"란 제하의 기삽니다.

"Are we to assume from this study that the battle of Armageddon will be all over by the autumn of 1975, and the long-looked-for thousand-year reign of Christ will begin by then? Possibly, but we wait to see how closely the seventh thousand-year period of man's existence coincides with the sabbathlike thousand-year reign of Christ....It may involve only a difference of weeks or months, not years" [Watchtower, 15 Aug. 1968, 494-501]

1975년 가을까지 도처에선 아마겟돈 전쟁이 발발할 것이고 , 그 후 그리스도의 천년 통치가 시작될 것임을 확신하고 있습니다. 있을지도 모를 오차라고 해봐야 몇 년도 아니고 몇 달이나 몇 주 정도 일 것이다 라면서요. 74년 5월 이후에서 75년 가을(10월 즈음)사이에는 아마겟돈이 시작돼야 하고 끝나야 한다는 말이 됩니다. 그래야 그리스도가 통치하는 새 천년이 시작 될 수 있을 테니까요.

그렇다면 일년 반 안에 일어날 일에 대해 어느 정도 확신하고 있었을까요?
1968년 11월 파수대에도 위와 동일한 제목의 기사가 실렸었습니다.
이 기사 말이죠. "1975년, 왜 당신은 그 해를 기대하는가?"

"성서 예언의 성취로 그 확실성의 강화된 성서 연대에 의하면, 인간 존재의 6,000년이 조만간, 바로 이 세대 내에 끝나리라는 한 가지 사실은 절대 확실합니다!(마태24:34) 그러므로 지금은 냉담하거나 무관심할 때가 아닙니다. 지금은 "그 날과 그 때는 아무도 모르나니 하늘의 천사들도, 아들도 모르고 오직 아버지만 아시느니라."고 하신 예수의 말씀을 가지고 희롱할 때가 아닙니다.(마태24:36) 그와는 반대로 지금이야 말로 이 사물의 제도의 끝이 횡포한 종말을 향하여 급격히 달려가고 있다는 것을 예리하게 의식해야 할 때입니다. 잘못을 저지르지 마십시오.[파수대 1968년 11월15일호 521페이지]

"잘못을 저지르지 마십시오", "절대 확신합니다", 거기에 더해 "그 날과 그 때는 아무도 모르나니"하는 "예수의 말씀"을 가지고 장난 칠 때도 아니랍니다. 이 이상 "그 때"에 대한 더 어떤 강조가 있을 수 있겠습니까?
얼마나 열심히 떠들어 댔으면 1969년 7월 21일자 The Los Angeles Herald Examiner 지에도 실렸었답니다. 3대 회장인 노어씨가 무려 8만 천여명이나 되는 증인들을 LA 다저 필드에 모아놓고 75년에 대해 열변을 토했던 모양입니다. 볼 만 했겠죠?!
기사 제목은 "70년대에 아마겟돈이 임할 것이라고 증인들이 말하다"

In July of 1969, President Nathan H. Knorr addressed 81,000 Witnesses at Dodger Field in Los Angeles. "Why are we looking forward to 1975?" he asked. And then he answered his question by stating, "It is firmly maintained that by the autumn of the year 1975, the battle of Armageddon will have been fought and God's new world will have been established" [Los Angeles Herald Examiner, July 21, 1969]

1910년대와 40년대의 아마겟돈 언급이 1,2차 세계 대전과 관계가 있었을 것으로 보면 세상에 무슨 큰 일만 터지면 저런 호들갑들을 떨었겠구나/떨겠구나 싶습니다.
"1975년을 아마겟돈이라고 한 적이 전혀 없다는 것입니다."라 한들 뭣이 달라진답니까?
괜한 걸 변호하려 애쓰지 않으셔도 됩니다.

"By carefully and prayerfully examining our own circumstances, we also may find that we can spend more time and energy in preaching during this final period before the present system ends. Many of our brothers and sisters are doing just that. This is evident from the rapidly increasing number of pioneers. Yes, since the summer of 1973 there have been new peaks in pioneers every month. Now there are 20,394 regular and special pioneers in the United States, an all-time peak. That is 5,190 more than there were in February 1973! A 34-percent increase! Does that not warm our hearts? Reports are heard of brothers selling their homes and property and planning to finish out the rest of their days in this old system in the pioneer service. Certainly this is a fine way to spend the short time remaining before the wicked world's end. 1 John 2:17. Circumstances such as poor health or responsibilities in connection with your family may limit what you can do in the field ministry. And yet, the pioneer ranks include many who have health limitations, as well as some persons with families. But these brothers and sisters are able to regulate their lives so that they can care for their responsibilities and still put in the 1,200 hours a year, an average of 100 hours a month in the field ministry, required of pioneers."
